“Design Hero” Award From Autocar Goes to Volvo’s Thomas Ingenlath

Every all-new Volvo model unveiled in the last four years have something in common: they were designed by Thomas Ingenlath. Serving as vice president of design since 2012, he’s the reason the latest models offer Thor’s Hammer headlamps, and an elegant interior rooted in Scandanavian aesthetic. Recently, he was awarded “Design Hero” by Autocar.

That’s a pretty fitting accolade for Ingenlath, who has been credited with elevating Volvo’s stature as a luxury brand. Favoring clean and simple lines, classic proportions, and striking details, his touch can be seen in every interior from the XC60 to the S90, and in between. When he accepted the award, Ingenlath brought an example of his work to showcase—a V90 T6 Inscription with 20-inch diamond-cut wheels, Maple Brown paint, dark window tints, a panoramic glass sunroof, and an interior of blond and charcoal Nappa leather with walnut wood inlays.
